Note
Since this entry (so long ago ) Perer Russell's new book, Waking Up In Time, appeared. I have just ordered it from Cygnus Books.
It is a thoroughly rewritten edition of The White Hole in Time.
Waking up in time?
It might seem that nothing has changed since Fred Hoyle's "prediction" 60 years ago. However, the span of sixty years needs to be considered as a streach in a larger time scale. Choose one and consider the implications:
Time elapsed since
the rise od modern consciousness 50,000 years ago the start of settled centres of production 10,000 years ago the start of modern---post mythical---thinking with the rise of modern thinking in Classical Greece 2,500 years ago the fall of Pax Romana 1,500 years ago the end of feudalism in the West and the rise of Capitalism and the Industrial Revolution 500 years ago the nineteenth century, dominance of railways and the rise of the electric world---the last 200 years the turning point---becoming a spacefaring species 40 years ago |
