In case you're wondering - and I'm sure you are - that's "Happy New Year" in three different Indian languages.
So, any of you made any resolutions for 2007? _________________ Carcharodon Carcharias

I speak the third one at home Zuczek. And no, V.N, I don't have problems with all these languages.......most Indians, especially Southerners, usually learn to speak three or four languages even before they get into their teens. It's like second nature to us.
If I was ever to go North - say, Kashmir or Manipur or some place like that, I'd be having trouble with the local lingos, but most of these languages are similar to each other(like Hindi, Gujarati and Urdu, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, etc.), so we'll be able to understand and make ourself understood easily. Indeed, my cousin married a guy from Andhra, and she doesn't even speak Kannada. _________________ Carcharodon Carcharias

Zuczek, I do love my own language, and it is very familiar to Norwegian (bokmål, since the New Norwegian language is a bit different and more difficult too understand). But they have another way of pronouncing the words, a very different way actually, I would maybe understand it if someone spoke it slowly and it still was in bokmål. Norwegian is also a soft and singing language, and I love singing languages.
Gunner, and I can even get problems understanding my family on the west coast.. and they speak the same language like me.. _________________ PROKOFIEV IS HOT! <3 |

Ok, listen to me: I don't like my mother tongue! I love English, I wanna go away from my country and use English as my own language There is one problem - I don't know where could I go. I have a very far family in Australia, New Zeland and USA, and even in Macau (China) ^_^ They all say there is a good life, in peace. I don't say that there is no peace in Poland, but politicans are getting on my nerves and I wanna forget about them all! Surprised? _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

Because no one from abroad know what's going on in this country (exept politicans from other countries). My family is bored, tired with rulers. Of course, my mother doesn't aprove of my plans for future She is repeating that it's hard to earn enough money for start and that I should live in my own country. Anyway, I'm not sure what I'm going to do in my life, perhaps I'll stay here, but I have to visit remote country _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

Happy new year everyone and sorry for my lengthy hiatus. My new year was one of the most boring in recorded history: my family watched fireworks on TV then I played games until 3am. I did complete Doom II on Ultra-Violence difficulty, I guess that's praiseworthy.
What does your mother want you to do zuczek? University and then go into the family businesd? _________________ http://claw.ben-ts.net -- The Belated Claw Fansite

Maybe, but now we don't have our family buisness, but it's sure if she has a good idea, she'll start it. I don't know wheter I would like to work there. First, after university, me and Michael (my cousin) have to go to India, it's our dream And then, I'll see what can I do. _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

I've always had this image of asians that their basic personalities linger around modesty and politeness, so Japan and China would seem good choises, if you can stomach a single-party government in China. It seems the farmers have it worst there but the citizens have it good. _________________ http://www.geocities.com/captainclawslair

Yeah, living in big cities in south China is good, people are well-off there. In Zuhai, near Macau, there are lots of shopping malls, they are located a few streets along from each other, and those people seem to have money and good, happy life _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

<laughs so loudly that the windowpanes rattle, and Mom yells at me from downstairs>
It's true that India and Pakistan didn't have a very freindly relationship, but - holy shit, NUCLEAR WAR? Stupidest thing I ever heard since someone scribbled on the college notice board with graffiti last year that drinking monkeys' blood can help lose weight.
I agree that the Kargil war triggered off fresh hostitlies between us, but since 2002 both countries have made peace with each other more or less...Indeed, last year the first bus service between the two countries started, from Lahore to Amritsar, and prisoners are bieng released from both sides.
Besides, in India, the decisions aren't made by single induviduals. One person alone can't declare a war or a nuclear strike - unlike countries like the U.S where the President is the Supreme Power and whose orders so HAVE to be obeyed - so if someone ever takes the offensive, it won't be us, anyway. And I don't think the Paks'll make such an offensive move either. Hands down, I'd say countries like America and Russia are closer to nuclear war than we are.....It's the west that should be worrying about tans then.....
@ DzjeeAr: Yes, it's true what you say about modesty and politeness - as far as treating foreigners is concerned. I don't know about Japan or China but in India a guest, any guest, is an Athidhi, a Mehmaaan, and thus second only to god himself..... which is why we're always so nice to people from other countries. If you ever visit, keep one thing in mind - Indians will go a long way out of their way to help an Athidhi - as long as you don't insult the wide variety of diverse cultures that reside here.
Diverse...that's a word you'll hear very frequently about India......
@Zuczek: I love my 'dwelling' because of it's natural beaty, the amazaing diversity of cultures, the great green outdoors, the awesome tales of mythology about gods and demons and good & evil, Heroic true stories of men like Azad and Bhagath Singh - you guys don't know them - who fought against the Crown Rule and the patriotism that they inspire, because of the beautiful climate, and most of all because of the strong unity the nation exhibits in spite of its extremely diverse societies. "Unity in Diversity", a phrase that every child learns as soon as he can talk and write......
And Plus, I love living in the South because it's one of the few places in the East which has mixed with western culture and still retained its original form, becoming a hybrid, sort of a 'symbiotic' society.... In all the world you won't find another place as unique and diverse as Kerala is.
P.S: One last thing - I say 'South' or 'Southerners' only because both the places and the people are very much different from North India: One very small example; Southerners tend to grow moustaches, whereas most people from the North like to be clean shaven. For us, though, it's like a status symbol. Girls DIG moustaches!
BUT - we don't discriminate ourseleves by saying North and South, it's only a way of expression, what I used before . So if I gave you that impression I'm sorry, beause if the North of the nation was in a war, the South would be in it as much the North is. "Unity in Diversity", remember? North South East West..... Hindu Muslim Sikh Christian....... Malayali Marathi Gujarathi Kashmiri.......doesn't matter. We're all united, we're all Indians, and that comes first.
Hmmmm, got a little carried away didn't I? I get like that when I talk about India. Sorry if I bored you to sleep. Hope you enjoyed the lesson. _________________ Carcharodon Carcharias

Carried away? Of course not, I like your speech! It isin't boing, it's amazing that someone is talking about one's country with excitement. If there's something interesting you want to tell, do it now. Be sure, I really want to read it and consider. When I was a child (10, 8 years ago) I though India is a poor country, with lots of hungry people, with no perspectives to have normal life _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

I won't pretend that we have a perfect world over here....India has it's own share of social evils just like any other country.
And as for your decision to come here, I think you should seriously consider the vast change in lifestyle that you'll have to go through to live in a new society......starting from the climate itself. Because we're at the tropics, most cities face a dust problem here.... foreigners with allergies and hay fever have a very hard time adapting sometimes.
Also remember that if you're coming over to work, you're not a guest..... so you won't be getting the full previleges of a Mehmaan, either. Besides if I were you I wouldn't be leaving my country at all. Why go work for another nation, instead of your own motherland? I read everything you wrote about Poland, but - answer me this - if all of you think the same way and move out to find work, will that help the country? Will things ever change?
The way I see it, you don't owe India anything - but you do have an obligation towards Poland. I have the same obligation towards India, which is why I turned down a five-figure per month job at IBM; Why serve another nation when I can serve my own?
I hate to say it, but I think your Mom's right - upto a point. You should think this over. If you don't want to handle the family business that's your decision; but why not find something else to do right there in Poland? _________________ Carcharodon Carcharias

Wait...you're 17/18 and someone offered to pay you 10k+ a month? And you said no? What are doing now?
I don't believe anyone has an obligation toward their nation. We get born in a certain country through a blind lottery, our country hasn't done anything to earn our loyalty. The call is completely up to us. I try to support Australia because I believe Australia is going in the right direction and is promoting a set of values that will benefit humanity. But if Australia was to become, say, a fascist regime I'd want nothing to do with my country. _________________ http://claw.ben-ts.net -- The Belated Claw Fansite

# The gunner: I'm not an allergic and I learnt how is the tropical climat. Holy shit, I didn't say I want to work in India! I just want to visit it You're right, I shouldn't serve other countires, that what my mom says, but GC is right too, it's a random event, where are we born.... _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

I'm nineteen, and I was offered a post in IBM Software during last November's campus recruitments. I turned it down for two reasons: One, I don't want to move outside the country to work, and two, I don't want to spent the rest of my life sitting in front of a PC rushing deadlines and putting in hundred-hour weeks.
Right now I'm working in Software(on my own) part-time, designing for small-time companies and induvidual agencies. I only have less than four months of college left, and after that....well, that's my little secret.
| Quote: | | I try to support Australia because I believe Australia is going in the right direction and is promoting a set of values that will benefit humanity. But if Australia was to become, say, a fascist regime I'd want nothing to do with my country. |
But even if that were to happen, wouldn't you want to change things? Or at least try to?
As for the random lottery part, almost everything and every incident we see around us is a result of a random event or a number of events which are prob'ly totally unrelated to each other. We love our parents, don't we? But that's a random event, too. We could easily have been born to George Bush or Osama Bin Laden, who knows?
That event(just one example of many), where we are born and who we are born to, defines us in a strange way. It shapes our character, influences the way we think, and can even affect our fate - if you believe in fate. It also includes us into a society(call it nation, homeland, family, or whatever), where we are accepted and loved. If there's a flaw with that society, wouldn't you want to change it? Wouldn't you fight for it?
You would. I know you would. Remember what Gerald says to Scarlett in Gone With The Wind, Ben? "Land is the only thing worth fighting for - worth dying for. Because it is the only thing that lasts."
Also, In a way, our land represents that society where we have belonged to all our life. That's what patriotism is - a civilized kind of territorial instinct that drives men..... Goddammit, here I go again..... _________________ Carcharodon Carcharias

Oh my God, it seems you are right, man, you are right. You speak as an adult person, and if you are 19, you are. Thank you, I think I've unsderstood something very important now. Anyway, still don't know what shall I do in the future. I'm sixteen years old guy, on maths-physics-IT profile in 'middle-school' and still don't know what shall I do. But remember: if there is any opportunity to go to India, I will take it. Hehe, it's a sure thing you'll tell me I have time to decide.....
And one more thing: under India's symbol, there re two words written in hindi, bengal or other language, used in your country:
http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=indiarq8.jpg
Does it mean: Unity in Diversity? _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

I honestly can't understand people who hate their nationality (not the country) I'm not always proud of DK, but if someone from outside, threated my country or tried to 'change' it I'd do everything to stop it, I wouldn't just go away.
I undstand Zuczek's dream about travelling to India, I have the same dream about Africa, even though I'm not really related to it (except my big brother) _________________ PROKOFIEV IS HOT! <3 |

@ Zuczek: Nope, it's not easy to save the pronounciation. Try saying the two words out loud and you'll understand.

Uh... no offence, I would never suppose India for such lovely phrase located below the Symbol. I mean, there're no mottos like: "We are great nationality" or "We will win everything" _________________ In malayalam - Ngan ninne snaehikkunnu ;*

GC> It's that exact reason that I never understood patriotism or nationalism. They claim to be proud of their country and are generally blind to what's wrong about it. I can't stomach it, specificly American superiority and arrogance (more than often combined with simple stupidty) I'm growing to dispise these days, since a few years already. _________________ http://www.geocities.com/captainclawslair
